In addition to making people laugh, Raúl Carbonell has stated his commitment to Puerto Rican society, so he chose the Puerto Rico Community Foundation (FCPR) as the beneficiary entity of his new initiative.
Nonprofits have been most impacted by the decline in aid to the third sector as a result of all the events the country has faced in recent years, from hurricanes and earthquakes to the COVID pandemic. Likewise, the number of volunteers and personal fundraising events has been affected.
On the other hand, the artistic class has always stood out by showing solidarity and promoting initiatives that enable them to continue helping others. While equally affected by the impact of the pandemic, many have sought a way to reinvent themselves.
The actor, comedian, singer and lawyer decided to form the alliance with the Puerto Rico Community Foundation in an effort to support them so that they can continue to provide their services to thousands of people.
Carbonell decided to start a mask production of the collection featuring the characters’ signature images and phrases “Papo Swing”, “El Veterano”, “Pupe” and “Israel”. The four designs will be limited edition and one percent of sales will go to the beneficiary entity.
“Sure, the masks not only provide protection, but have a design that will bring a smile to others because of the affection they have for my characters. Most important, however, is to be able to continue to support them, so that the Foundation in turn can continue its mission to help others in times of crisis, ”said Carbonell.
Mary Ann Gabino, senior vice president of the Puerto Rico Community Foundation, said, “The COVID-19 pandemic has had unprecedented consequences for nonprofits and we are very grateful that Raúl Carbonell chose us to train part of this initiative ”.
The Department of Health and the World Health Organization have reported that the recommendations for social distance and the use of masks will remain in effect indefinitely. It should be noted that although there are already approved vaccines, the use of masks will continue to be part of everyday life.
Since 1984, the Puerto Rico Community Foundation has contributed to the development of Puerto Rican communities by establishing, preserving, and managing funds. The strategic plan promotes and strengthens, among other things, fair access to drinking water, renewable energy, affordable housing, economic development of the community and education.
The masks can be purchased through the Ticket Center (www.tcpr.com) or by calling (787) 508-3300.
