Authorities will today summon the alleged organizer of the activity that gathered hundreds of people in the parking lot of the Oulets de Montehiedra shopping center last Saturday evening in light of the possible violation of the executive order against COVID-19.

This was reported by the designated Minister of Health, Carlos Mellado, at a press conference in La Fortaleza this afternoon.

“He’s identified himself and I understand he’s going to be quoting today,” Mellado said.

Yesterday in an interview with The new day, the director of the Department of Health’s Investigation Bureau, Jesús Hernández, had indicated that they could find out the identity of the alleged organizer through interviews.

But because confirmations were lacking to confirm it, he indicated that he could not disclose his identity.

“When we arrived they started to disperse and leave the area. But with the help of the mall, we established points of comparison, to do car-by-car interviews, individually by individual, until we could find the information of the possible event organizer. We are in the process of establishing communication with that person, ”Hernández said yesterday.

He noted that it was “people who gather in shopping centers and in different parts of the island to share information about vehicles. Sometimes they race on the roads, but in this case we couldn’t determine that. “

“The disturbing thing is that there were hundreds of people with hundreds of cars. For us it is an extreme concern because there was no distance, sharing, getting into different vehicles without any prevention. What we want here is to save lives, ”he said.

Mellado, for his part, said today that event organizers can apply for waivers to be approved if they meet a series of requirements.

“It should be remembered that activities can be carried out as long as they apply for an exemption from the Ministry of Interior and comply with a specific and punctual protocol for the number of people, masks and measures,” said Mellado.

“This activity (on Saturday) had no dispensation. They sent a message and the police arrived in less than ten minutes and the organizer of the event was found. It will be processed today by the Department of Health, in conjunction with the police, the person’s subpoena and potential violations will be referred to the Department of Justice, ”he said.
