Everspace 2 launches with early access

Spaceship looter gunner Everspace 2 kicks off today for his planned mission through early access area. For the sequel to their roguelike space flight game, Rockfish Games are cracking Everspace 2 in an open-world RPG. The full game is expected sometime in 2022, but you can jump right into the cockpit right now if you want to see how things go.

The original Everspace also underwent early access, so this is a known flight plan for the developers. Now that they’re shooting for a bigger game with more complexity, Rockfish says they’re looking forward to getting feedback from fans as development on the sequel continues.

The first version is good for at least 25 hours of gameplay, while pilots are introduced to Everspace 2’s core gameplay mechanics of space combat, exploration, mining, puzzle solving, travel, trading, item crafting, crafting, ship customization, and players – and companion perks, and five different player ship subclasses, ”they say.

Throughout its early access, which Rockfish has estimated to be 12-18 months, Everspace 2 expects to add new content in quarterly releases. Those updates are planned to bring more of just about everything, it sounds, from new galaxies to new enemies, subclasses of ships, enemies, jobs and factions.

While it was a different style game, Brendan Caldwell (RPS in Pieces) says in RPS’s Everspace review that it was a “better than average dog fighting sim.” It looked decent too. In any case, the sequel seems to continue in that tradition.

You can find it on Steam Early Access and GOG Games In Development for £ 32 / $ 40 / € 38.
