More than a week has passed since screenshots of those terrifying alleged DMs between Armie Hammer and a string of women first surfaced – and now the actor has reportedly apologized, though not for the reason many might think.
For days, pop culture obsessives have been appalled by the screenshots, which have not been confirmed by any official source, but which seem to show that the actor once described himself as a “ cannibal ” and harbor slave and rape fantasies. Aside from that, other posts and on-the-record interviews from one of his exes claim that Hammer was at least mentally and emotionally abusive as well. The actor brushed off the claims as “bullshit” in a broad statement announcing his departure from the Jennifer Lopez rom-com. Shotgun wedding.
Tabloids, of course, have all kinds of grime on the last week Call me by your name actor – including a private Instagram account where the actor appeared to be posting a photo of himself using the hallucinogenic DMT for a mandatory drug test. The report also included a video of a woman posing on all fours on a bed in lingerie, her buttocks colored red with a caption that referred to her as “Mrs. Cayman.” That video is apparently what Hammer felt the need to address explicitly.
Apparently, the Miss Cayman Islands Universe Committee did not appreciate the nickname Hammer gave the woman in the video. “The role of Miss Cayman is in part to serve as a role model for young Cayman women,” the organization wrote in a statement last weekend, as first reported by People. “The image of the woman in the video goes against everything our organization stands for and the committee is therefore asking that Mr. Hammer immediately remove all references to Miss Cayman from his social media outlets.
Hammer has now issued a statement of apology through the Caiman compass– seemingly marking the first time that he has publicly acknowledged the account and verified its authenticity. “I would like to clarify that the person in my video that was stolen from my private Instagram is not Miss Cayman,” said the actor.. “I am truly sorry for the confusion my foolish attempt at humor has caused.”
