It wouldn’t be an off-season MLB without Yankees outfielder Clint Frazier being the subject of trade rumors.
That was the case over the weekend, when erroneous reports indicated that the Yankees had sent Frazier, along with third baseman Miguel Andujar, to the Reds for star pitcher Luis Castillo.
Both teams denied the reports.
The 26-year-old did too, by tweeting the expletive “ I’m Not Leaving ” scene from the 2013 film “ Wolf of Wall Street, ” in which disgraced stockbroker Jordan Belfort, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, says he won’t be leaving his company, despite an FBI investigation.
Unlike previous offseasons, when his much-maligned defense and controversial comments sparked trade speculation, Frazier may have reason to be sure of staying at The Bronx.
Originally taken over by the Yankees as an acclaimed prospect five years ago, Frazier played a vital role for the club in last season’s 60-game sprint, improving his defense to the point of being named a Gold Glove finalist. With Giancarlo Stanton likely to be moved to DH and veteran Brett Gardner still a free agent, Frazier could potentially start next season against Aaron Judge.
On Friday, the Yankees and Frazier agreed to a $ 2.1 million one-year contract to avoid arbitration.
