Disney star Olivia Rodrigo released her debut single “Drivers License” on January 8 – and it quickly dominated the Spotify charts. The streaming service announced On Friday, the emotional pop ballad about teenage heartbreak broke the platform’s record for the most streams of a song in one week.
Spotify’s worldwide weekly Top 200 chart revealed that the song was streamed 65,873,080 times during the week ending January 14. The song “DÁKITI” Bad Bunny and Jhay Cortez took the number two spot on the chart, with The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” third.
But most streams aren’t the only Spotify record the 17-year-old songbird’s ballad broke in the past week. Spotify tweeted on Wednesday, that “Driver’s License” set the platform’s record for the most streams in a day for a non-holiday tune on Jan. 11, then broke its own record the next day.
According to Spotify’s charts, the song reached 13,714,177 streams on Friday.
The song is also cleaned up on other streaming platforms. The ballad broke the record for ‘the greatest streaming debut ever in the first week in the world’ on Amazon Music after its release, Amazon Music tweeted Thursday. It also broke the global record for the most requested song of all time in one day on Alexa, the company said.
According to Apple, it is currently the most played song on Apple Music worldwide.
According to her biography on the Interscope Records website, Rodrigo first started playing the piano when she was 7. She learned to play guitar shortly after starring in the Disney series “Bizaardvark,” which ran from 2016 to 2019.
Rodrigo is currently starring in Disney + ‘s “High School Musical: The Musical – The Series” and wrote a song for the show’s fourth episode, the site said. The song, entitled “All I Want”, is certified gold and has been streamed more than 200 million times, according to Interscope.
