Latest COVID-19 pandemic information in Tuolumne County

Sonora, CA – Receive an update from Interim Tuolumne County Health Officer Dr. Eric Sergienko on COVID-19 vaccine distribution, testing issues and transmission speeds, including the holiday wave.

Dr. Sergienko is a guest at Mother Lode Views this weekend. He says the county is still seeing hospital admissions lag the cases by about a week to two weeks. He says the county put an emphasis on the health care system over the Christmas holidays, noting Adventist Health Sonora had a high number of COVID-positive patients. Dr. Sergienko reveals that this posed challenges for healthcare delivery, saying, “In the Central Valley, the ICU beds were full. We had a hard time getting patients in California who needed special services like dialysis or cancer treatment. Actually talking to Adventist, they had to send a patient as far away as Reno. “

Dr. Serienko emphasizes that this is just one of the reasons he insists on wearing masks, social distancing, and hand washing, especially until a majority of the province’s population gets the vaccine. He also estimates when the vaccinations will be completed in the county, calculating the percentage of the population who will receive an injection and currently require two doses per person. To hear his answer, tune in to the show.
