Philadelphia asked the Patriots for permission to speak to their offensive coordinator for the head coach vacancy.

The Philadelphia Eagles have added a new candidate to their list for the vacancy at the head coach position.

This Saturday the Eagles asked the New England Patriots for permission to interview offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, said Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Philadelphia is expected to conduct the interview on Sunday, sources told Schefter.

McDaniels has previous experience as a head coach after spending two seasons with the Denver Broncos from 2009-2010, where he was 11-17..

McDaniels is currently in his second stint as the Patriots’ attack coordinator, where he was originally from 2006-2008, before moving to Denver. In 2011 he served as Offensive Coordinator for the St. Louis Rams and returned to New England in 2012.

The Patriots have won six Super Bowls (XXXVI, XXXVIII, XXXIX, XLIX, LI and LIII) led by McDaniels.

Besides McDaniels, The Eagles also asked for permission to interview Kansas City Chiefs attack coordinator Eric Bieniemy. However, they have to wait for the Chiefs’ participation in the playoffs to end in order to conduct the interview.

The remaining candidates for the Eagles head coach vacancy are Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive coordinator Todd Bowles; Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore; Los Angeles Rams Defense Coordinator Brandon Staley; and Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Joe Brady.

This week, the Eagles fired coach Doug Pederson after finishing the season 4-11-1 and sparked controversy with the quarterback by putting Carson Wentz on the bench for rookie Jalen Hurts, who was in the second half. of the last game of the regular season against Washington, who was replaced by Nate Sudfeld.

So far, three of the teams that fired their head coach in the 2020 season have appointed their new coach: the Jacksonville Jaguars with Urban Meyer, the New York Jets with Robert Saleh, and the Atlanta Falcons with Arthur Smith.
