Luis Marrero Díaz, one of the police officers murdered in Carolina, is promoted to sergeant

Luis Marrero Díaz, one of the agents murdered in a Carolina prosecution last Monday, was posthumously promoted to Sergeant this Friday by Police Commissioner Antonio López Figueroa.

The promotion of Marrero Díaz, who served 18 years with the Puerto Rico Police Department, took place in the parking lot of Díaz’s funeral home in Toa Alta, where dozens of people have paid their respects since yesterday.

The Secretary of Public Security, Alexis Torres, and some of his most important colleagues and family attended the ceremony.

“To Comrade Marrero Díaz’s family, there are few words I can offer to ease their pain. But If there is one thing I can tell you with certainty and conviction, it is that despite the loss of your loved one, you have had a huge family. Because behind you is a whole people who support you. All Puerto Rico police officers are joining these massive displays of solidarity. Know that each of us is and will always be a part of your familyLópez Figueroa said just before he started the official acts.

The Metropolitan Area’s Tactical Operations Department, led by Sergeant Miguel Álvarez, fired several salvos as a tribute to Marrero Díaz. In addition, officers José Castro Fragoso and Eddie Irizarry, of the Puerto Rico Police Band, sounded their trumpets.

“With the power conferred on me by Law 20 of the Department of Public Security and the Government of Puerto Rico, as appointed Commissioner of the Puerto Rico Police Department, I am promoted to the rank of Sergeant by Luis A. Marrero Diaz, number 8-28835. Glory to whom honor is due “said López Figueroa as he promoted Marrero Díaz to sergeant.

It was Marrero Díaz’s mother, Mrs. María Luisa Díaz Rivera and her daughter, Jheylimar Marrero Román, who received the flags of Puerto Rico and the United States as part of the ceremony.

The shutdown of the activity was responsible for the Carolina Motorized Unit, which had the sirens lit in honor of the agent who worked in that unit.

Marrero Díaz also stood out as a motorcyclist in the Isla Verde Tourist Precinct and as a player in the Pelota Doble A and Coliceba competition in several cities.

Police confirmed on Wednesday that Marrero Díaz and Carolina municipal police officers Luis Salamán Conde and Eliezer Hernández Cartagena died after a man identified as David E. Rivera Batiz shot them in the middle of a chase.

The killer’s body was found in the early hours of Tuesday with several gunshot wounds in Santurce. It was accompanied by a sign identifying him as the culprit.
