A British teacher ticked off parents when she accidentally emailed her class a manipulated video footage of a children’s poem – which once made it harmless prose about incest.
The unnamed teacher at Ings Primary School in East Yorkshire planned to send her 5th and 6th grade students a video in which children’s author Michael Rosen read his poem ‘The Car Trip’, the Sun reported Thursday.
Instead, she sent the class a vile parody of the story called ‘The Horrible Car Trip’, in which the video was split to make it about incest.
“Teachers need to check what they send kids and not just be lazy and post random links they haven’t verified,” said an angry father who listened to the video with his daughter.
“I heard it half way the first time when I was working and she was sitting next to me and struggling to answer the questions,” he said. “So I had to listen to the poem carefully and realized there was something seriously wrong with what she was listening to and turned the video off.”
He said the video was on hold for more than an hour before being pulled.
The teacher sent the video via Google Classroom as he remotely taught the 9- and 10-year-old students because of the coronavirus pandemic, the outlet said.
Rosen, a popular children’s author, wrote ‘The Car Trip’ about siblings arguing in the back of the family car while on a trip with their mother – but the innocent story was turned into a sick parody of the promoted video.
Red-faced school officials were forced to apologize to irate parents.
“The poem was uploaded by accident and we apologized for this real mistake,” said the school’s principal, Kath Roe, in a message. “We would also like to thank the parent who contacted us immediately after noticing the error.”
“Changes have been made to the upload process and we will ensure that the content shared with our students is thoroughly checked by our teachers,” she wrote.
