More portable projectors please!

I’m a bit of an outlier here at Gizmodo when it comes to projectors. I love them, and I’m especially addicted to portable projectors that can move from room to room with you depending on where you want to stream something. Sure, a gorgeous 65-inch OLED is great for watching premium video, but what about just sit back and see where you feel comfortable in your home? So a portable projector with a solid on-unit speaker and a wireless solution? And it is the size of a coffee cup? Asus, consider me intrigued.

The company announced its new ZenBeam Latte L1 projector this week as part of the CES product range. The mug-sized device works as both a projector and a Bluetooth speaker, meaning you can stream music or podcasts from it too. It is equipped with Aptoide TV to access streaming apps and supports screen mirroring for casting from your phone. And the company says this compact projector can produce up to 300 lumens and project an image from 40 to 120 inches – that’s just as big or even bigger than your TV.

As a Bluetooth speaker, Asus says the Latte will last up to 12 hours on a single charge. As a beamer you can watch up to three hours on the battery alone. But that’s certainly long enough to see an episode of your favorite show or even a movie with normal running time.

However, what I love about this projector, even if the battery life for serious streaming isn’t its strongest selling point, is that it’s compact enough to take anywhere. Heck, you could throw it in a backpack for one socially distant movie night in the backyard. But it also fits into smaller spaces such as a shelf or bookcase without having to move a lot of stuff to make it fit.

Pricing and an exact release date are unclear at the moment, but we contacted Asus for more information. And you better believe I’ll be first in line to get your hands on one of these when it’s officially in stores.
