The fire department, along with Carolina municipal firefighters, monitored the fire that started after an explosion at Curtis Instruments, Inc.’s factory facilities on Cuatro Ruedas Street in the Sabana Abajo neighborhood, in that municipality’s industrial area.
Carolina Fire Department Area Commander Julio Gastón informed El Nuevo Día that when the firefighters arrived at the scene, they found a machine on fire. “We arrived on the scene, we took out all the personnel, we put them in a safe area, we made sure that no personnel were missing, and then the Bureau firefighters, along with the Carolina Municipal Firefighters, proceeded to the put out the fire, ”he said.
“Everything is fine, everything is under control. We will provide ventilation to remove all smoke from the area, ”added Gastón, noting that no injuries were reported from the incident. Approximately 70 to 80 employees were employed at the location.
Earlier, Officer José Catalano, of police headquarters, indicated that only two people were affected: one was nervous and the other inhaled smoke.
Gastón indicated that it is not yet known what could have caused the explosion and the estimated losses. “That would be the responsibility of the factory administration itself to communicate how much the losses would be, but we (state firefighters) also report the incidence and estimate the losses.
He noted that the area of the explosion was not very large, but it covered an area with expensive machinery.
The incident was reported around 1:39 PM and authorities immediately took action.
