Jon Gosselin reveals he was hospitalized for COVID-19 and almost put on a ventilator

Jon Gosselin has revealed that he has been hospitalized for COVID-19 and is about to be put on a ventilator as he continues to fight the virus, but his estranged children don’t even know he’s sick.

The former Jon & Kate Plus 8 star opened up about his diagnosis and hospital stay during an interview on The Dr. Oz Show, which was taped today and will air Thursday.

The 43-year-old, who worked as an IT director in a healthcare facility during the pandemic, told host Dr. Mehmet Oz said he had a fever of 104.8 degrees when his girlfriend Colleen Conrad’s daughter Jordan took him to hospital.

Dr. Oz noted that people can begin to grasp when their temperature reaches 105 degrees.

‘I was in a wheelchair. I had to wait for the ER, ”Jon recalled. “It was packed like the hospital was full and then they put me on a stretcher and put me in the hallway in the waiting room so I could get a temporary room.”

He explained that everything “went very quickly” and that most of his hospital stay was a blur for him.

“Once they evaluated me and once they took my blood and did all my blood work, all of a sudden I get antibiotics, steroids and a plasma antibody transfusion for COVID,” he said.

‘Then they moved me to another room, a more permanent room, and then I just remember sleeping and then it was just unreal. Such as? I didn’t realize why I was there until three days later. ‘

Jon’s doctor believed that just one day of delayed treatment could have caused him to be on a ventilator, which Dr. Oz dramatically increases the death rate from the virus.

“I had very serious COVID pneumonia based on my grades,” the father agreed. Now what’s interesting is I didn’t feel it. I didn’t feel sick and I didn’t feel pain because it didn’t feel like someone stabbed me, but when you started moving or doing something and you felt so weak and you wanted to pass out, it was really scary. ‘

Jon said he would be afraid to get up and use the bathroom because he remembered how to ask his nurses to help him with almost anything.

“I’d be scared because I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I’m going to pass out. I can’t breathe,’ he said. I called the nurse and felt guilty for calling the nurse. Why can’t you just help me get this? Can you help me with that? Everything, you feel like an invalid.

“You go from one week to be completely healthy to you can’t do anything the next,” he added. “It was so weird.”

‘I miss them’: Jon, who is estranged from his other six children, told Dr. Oz that his brush with death prompted him to rethink his relationship with them

Jon and his ex-wife Kate Gosselin, 45, share twins Cara and Mady, 20, and sextuplets Aaden, Collin, Joel, Alexis, Hannah and Leah, 16.

However, only Collin and Hannah live with their father. Their siblings are raised by their mother during their parents’ messy custody battle, in which both Jon and Kate accuse the other of abuse.

Jon’s other kids are unaware that he has COVID-19 and will likely learn the news from his interview on the show.

The father told Dr. Oz that dealing with death has prompted him to rethink his relationship with his estranged children, and he shared an emotional message for them saying that he “loves them.”

“I hope they get into a relationship with Hannah and Collin. I hope someday I can be a part of your life, ”he told the camera. ‘I’m glad I got a second chance. I was more concerned about myself in the hospital and about getting better and going back to my family.

“I miss them,” he continued. That’s another surreal part of my life that I developed thick skin to move on to help Hannah and Collin now since they moved in with me. Those are things I want to build towards. ‘

Jon’s hospital stay comes months after his son Collin claimed his father hit and kicked him in a now-deleted Instagram post, prompting an investigation.

The Couples Therapy alum denied the allegations and in September showed DailyMail.com a letter from Berks County Children & Youth Services in Pennsylvania confirming the report of suspected child abuse was “ baseless. ”

Two months later, Jon encouraged his children to speak out about the drama surrounding their family while performing in The Dr. Oz Show.

“I think the kids should talk,” he said. “I mean, I give them the outlet of,” If you want to talk to the public because you’re public [people]you have every opportunity to do these things. ”

Jon added that he felt it would take ‘an intervention’ from his children to one day restore bridges with his ex-wife.

‘I have no idea if they’ll get in touch that way. I left that in their court and I’m just focusing on the two who live with me because so much is happening with therapies and work and COVID and everything else, ” he said.
