The Seahawks are looking for an offensive coordinator after the team decided on Tuesday to mutually split up with Brian Schottenheimer.
The man known as “Schotty” spent three seasons in Seattle and the Seahawks were collecting historical figures during that time.
But after a rough, early playoff exit to the LA Rams last weekend, it looked like the Seahawks might need to make some coaching changes.
On Monday morning, head coach Pete Carroll commented on the score of his offense, saying, “We need to run the ball better, not even better, we need to run it more. We need to dictate what’s going on with the people we’re against. play., and that’s one of the ways to do that. “
He also said Schottenheimer would be back.
However, that really wasn’t the case. Citing “philosophical differences,” the team decided otherwise 24 hours later.
It’s not difficult to read between the lines. Seattle had an OC who wanted to pass the ball and a head coach who wanted to run it more. Something had to give and Carroll had the power.
After the news broke on Tuesday, Seattle was shaken. But no one, coaches, players, fans will be more affected by the change than Pro-Bowl quarterback Russell Wilson.
Wilson, hearing the news, took to social media to write an open letter to his now former offensive coordinator.
Grateful might be an understatement.
Over the past three seasons, Schotty, Russ and the Seahawks have gone 33-15 together and had an almost unstoppable attack.
This season alone, Wilson managed a career-high 40 touchdowns and finished just eighty yards for a new career-high in passing yards with 4,212. His 384 completes, 558 tries, and 68.8% completion rate were all career high.
In the past three seasons, Wilson has totaled 11,770 yards, 106 touchdowns and 25 interceptions. While he threw 13 interceptions in his career this season, that was certainly a byproduct of more passing than ever.
It’s interesting that Seattle took this step with Carroll looking to run more. Actually, it just doesn’t make sense. Seattle has an MVP talent as a quarterback, and with Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf, he has the best wide receiver duo in the league. Metcalf alone is one of the best receivers in the competition, drawing comparisons to Calvin Johnson.
Another season for Metcalf, Lockett and Wilson to grow under Schottenheimer would have been scary for the NFL. Instead, Carrol and Co. opens the search for the team’s next play-caller.
Wherever Schotty lands, his new town will certainly like him.
