11,000 boxes of ice cream are being recalled for containing metal pieces

According to the FDA, a recall has been issued for more than 11,000 containers of Weis Markets ice cream products that may be contaminated with metal parts of equipment.
“The products may be contaminated with foreign material, especially metal parts of filling equipment,” the company said in a press release, adding that there are concerns that the foreign material may pose a choking hazard.

The recall affects 10,869 units of Weis Quality Cookies and Cream Ice Cream 48-ounce containers and 502 3-gallon bulk containers Klein’s Vanilla Dairy Ice Cream.

There is one report of a customer who found an “intact piece of metal tool” in a 48-ounce box of biscuits and cream, the company said.

The 48-ounce containers were sold in all 197 Weis Markets grocery stores located in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Delaware, and West Virginia. They have now been withdrawn from sale, the company said.

The product has an expiration date of October 21, 2020, located at the bottom of the container. Customers who have purchased the product can return it for a full refund.

The 3-gallon Klein’s Vanilla bulk ice cream was not for retail sale. It has been sold to a New York store and has been removed, the company said.

Additional ice cream products packaged on the same day as the recalled items were stored in a warehouse and not distributed, according to the company.

Customers looking for additional information should contact Weis customer service, the company said.
