LAFC has signed South Korean Kim Moon-Hwan and American Corey Baird

Los Angeles Football Club made its first acquisitions in 2021 with the creation of South Korean national team Kim Moon-Hwan, as well as young American Corey Baird.

Kim Moon-Hwan is a 25-year-old defender who primarily acts as a right back, although he can do the same as a midfielder in that sector. Moon-Hwan is from the Busan I Park of the K 1 League, the highest category of professional football in South Korea.

“Moon is a dynamic and exciting player who in turn brings great international experience to our team,” said John Thorrington, LAFC Co-President and General Manager in a statement. “He is a smart and versatile defender in the splendor of his career. Our club and fans are very excited that he has chosen LAFC for the next stage in his career.”

Kim Moon-Hwan is the first South Korean player to be signed by the Los Angeles institution. To appeal to that market, LAFC launched a line of club items designed by graphic artist Hokeun Choi. It is the first collection of Korean merchandise in MLS history.

The black and gold institution also announced the signing of 24-year-old American striker Corey Baird from Real Salt Lake. Baird was named MLS Rookie of the Year in 2018 after a stellar contribution to his debut season with 8 goals and 5 assists in 31 appearances.

“Corey is a dynamic forward and we are pleased to welcome a player of his caliber and qualities. We are confident that he will be a great asset to the team and that he will suit our way of playing to help us achieve our goals as a club for years to come, ”Thorrington said in the statement.

Born in California, Baird has represented the United States team in all junior ranks since U-15. In 2019, he got his first call with the senior team and made his debut in a friendly against Panama a year ago, giving an assist.

Baird, who mainly serves as a striker, is coming to strengthen that sector after the departure of veteran Bradley Wright-Phillips from the team.
