The Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, will be the first “super” COVID-19 vaccination site in Orange County, which, along with adjacent Los Angeles County, has quickly become one of America’s worst affected areas by the pandemic.
The site will be operational later this week, the Orange County Board of Supervisors said.
“It’s important to vaccinate as many willing people as possible against COVID-19, and we need the space to do that,” supervisor Donald P. Wagner said in a statement.
Orange County plans to set up five more “super POD” sites for the vaccine – which officials say could ideally vaccinate thousands of Californians per day.
The vaccinations at the Disneyland site are scheduled through a third-party app developed in partnership with Orange County.
Officials said most citizens who qualify for the vaccine will be contacted through their employers to make an appointment. The Disneyland site is not suitable for walkups.
