Some Los Angeles residents should wear masks in their own homes, as COVID-19 cases are increasing at alarming rates, health officials said.
Los Angeles County Director of Public Health Dr. Barbara Ferrer, on Monday, urged anyone living with someone more vulnerable to the virus to mask themselves at home, news channel KABC reported.
“Right now, because there is so much distribution, we recommend that people wear their face coverings while they are in the house. It will add an extra layer of protection as we get through this wave, ”Ferrer said at a news conference.
Ferrer said the extra precaution is particularly recommended for key workers or anyone who leaves their home to do the necessary errands.
“We highly recommend covering your face if you are an employee who leaves every day, or if you are in fact someone who needs to run the essential errands in your family,” Ferrer said.
The latest guidelines come as the province has become one of the most affected regions.
In Los Angeles, an average of about 10 people test positive for the virus every minute, KABC reported.
Ferrer said the province is “rapidly accelerating our pace to reach the grim milestone of 1 million cases.”
“The damaging effects of this wave on our families and local hospitals are the worst disaster our country has seen in decades,” she said.
