Marsha Zazula, co-founder of Megaforce Records, passed away at 68

Marsha Zazula, the co-founder of Megaforce Records, has passed away at the age of 68, her daughter Rikki confirmed on social media on Sunday.

“RIP Mom April 21, 1952 – January 10, 2021,” Rikki posted on Facebook. “Your love, Your strength, Your memory and Your music have changed lives and will remain FOREVER.”

Rikki has not disclosed a cause of death.

In the early eighties, Zazula and husband Jon founded Megaforce Records, which released the first Metallica records. The label posted an emotional message on Sunday in the wake of Zazula’s death.

“The music world is deeply indebted to Marsha Zazula, who, along with her husband Jon, has produced some of the most musically significant artists,” Megaforce Records tweeted.

Marsha was one of a kind and taught the world to be fiercely independent. She will always be a guiding force in our hearts, ”the message continued.

Metallica, who signed with Elektra Records in 1984, also paid tribute to Zazula on Sunday.

Rest in peace, Marsha. Thanks for everything, ”read the message. “Much love to @thejonzazula and the Zazula family.”
