A 22-year-old nurse remained in critical condition at San Fernando General Hospital yesterday after being hit with a hammer by an ex-boyfriend.
Jada Pierre, a geriatric nurse from Siparia, was attacked and punched in the head on Friday afternoon.
Pierre’s stepfather, Allan Pierre, spoke to reporters at his home in Siparia yesterday.
He said the attack on his stepdaughter took place shortly after he left home.
He said she was found by a driver near the forest reserve in Fyzabad with a head injury.
Allan Pierre said he and Pierre’s mother left home around 2:45 PM on Friday.
He said, “Before we left, she told me she was going to Siparia to get something to eat. Within half an hour of leaving her at home, we received a call from someone nearby telling us that they had just found her from the field road with head injuries. “
Pierre was taken to Siparia Health Facility and then transferred to San Fernando General Hospital.
At the hospital, she told her mother that an ex-boyfriend saw her along the dirt road near Sanderson Park and offered her a ride in his car.
While he was in the car, he asked them to get back together.
The police were told he was getting angry and asked her to drive.
As she climbed into the driver’s seat, the man hit her on the head several times with a hammer and then threw her out of the car before driving away.
Allan Pierre said his daughter had been in an on-again, off-again relationship with the man for the past eight years.
He said, “They knew each other from school days and that’s the only person we knew as her boyfriend. He used to come here early and lime during the day. He seemed like an ordinary guy. He was a very calm person. He has never shown any violent tendencies. “
‘I do not know what
went wrong ‘
Pierre’s stepfather did not think she was in danger.
He said people made it up and broke up as a normal part of life.
Pierre said Jada rarely shared details about her relationship.
He said, “I’ve never seen them have any big arguments, but like any relationship, there would be arguments here and there. I don’t know what went wrong in his mind to achieve this. “
Pierre said doctors at the hospital performed surgery on Jada yesterday morning.
He didn’t know what kind of surgery had been performed, but was grateful that his stepdaughter was still alive.
Last Friday, teacher Suzette Sylvester was found clubbed to death in her house.
Her killer used a hammer.
Her husband, credit officer Kurt Sylvester, was charged with murder and virtually appeared before a Couva magistrate Friday.
