According to a latest report, the Red Sox and the Dominican third baseman, Rafael Devers have not yet discussed a possible contract extension so far, agent Nelson Montes de Oca told Alex Speier of the Boston Globe.
For now, the focus is on reaching a salary agreement for the 2021 MLB season before next Friday’s deadline to present numbers. The Red Sox renewed Devers last year for a low of $ 692,500, even though he had a great 2019 season behind him.
The 24-year-old third baseman is now eligible for arbitration, where he is expected to receive bids of approximately $ 3.4 million to $ 6.3 million. Unfortunately for Devers, he starts the process of a shortened season in which he hit a normal .263 / .310 / .483 with 11 homers and 43 RBI’s in 248 at bats.
Unless an extension with Boston is in effect, Devers will not be eligible for free agency until after the end of the 2023 season.
