The Associated Press reported his comments on Saturday during an interview with Italian broadcaster Mediaset that airs on Sunday.

In the interview, Francis even says “in the most mature reality there is always something that doesn’t work, people who are going against the community, against democracy and against the common good,” AP reports.

“Thank goodness this exploded” in the open, Francis said, according to the news outlet. “So it can be seen, so it can be remedied.”

“This should be condemned, this movement, regardless of the people,” said Francis.

World leaders weighed this week about the Capitol breakthrough that left five dead, including a Capitol police officer and a 35-year-old woman who was shot. The Capitol was locked up when rioters overtook the Capitol, demolished offices and statues, and smashed windows.

Some protesters even entered the rooms of the House and Senate.

“We witnessed an attack on democracy by violent rioters instigated by the current president and other politicians,” Trudeau said at a news conference.

“As shocking, deeply disturbing and frankly sad as that event is, we have also seen this week that democracy is resilient in America.”

Trump gave a speech at a rally of his supporters at the National Mall on Wednesday, encouraging his supporters to march to the Capitol and demand that Congress only count voters who were “lawfully planned.”

After his comments, the mob caught up with rioters on Capitol Hill.
