SAN DIEGO – Supporters of President Donald Trump clashed with counter-protesters in San Diego on Saturday, leading police to declare the rally illegal for acts of violence.
Officers were hit with stones, bottles and eggs, police said, and the crowd aimed pepper spray at them.
KSWB-TV tweeted a video of counter-protesters, most of them dressed in black and waving an antifa flag, threw a folding chair and sprayed a chemical irritant at a smaller group of people participating in the march on the Pacific Beach boardwalk .
The station said in other cases, members of both groups were pushing and throwing objects at each other.
Police sent dozens of agents in riot gear to separate the two groups. Police asked residents to stay out of the area, warning that those who refused to disperse could be cited or arrested.
