Electronic Arts has unveiled all new SpongeBob SquarePants content for Madden NFL 21. In The Yard, players can check out the new SpongeBob Reef-Top location, which features a plethora of images of the character, as well as Nickelodeon branding. Players can spot the Krusty Krab nearby, while a SpongeBob float and the Nickelodeon balloon can be found in the air. By completing site challenges, players can unlock exclusive equipment based on the series, as well as new game modes. The event’s timing appears to coincide with this weekend’s NFL Wild Card game airing simultaneously on CBS and Nickelodeon.
A trailer for the content can be found in the Tweet embedded below.

SpongeBob content will include a total of three new modes: The Flying Dutchman’s Ghostly Grab, Sandy’s Rocket Arm Rally, and The Goo Lagoon Bowl. In The Flying Dutchman’s Ghostly Grab, players can jump higher and make impressive catches. Long touchdowns also earn bonus points. In Sandy’s Rocket Arm Rally, players can throw 80-meter passes and longer. Last but not least, The Goo Lagoon Bowl lets players move in slow motion.
While the SpongeBob and Madden collaboration certainly seems unusual, the crossover content looks pretty interesting too! All the images in the trailer really come off the screen, with colors that are a lot brighter than those Madden fans are used to seeing. It’s impossible to say what kind of crossover appeal there could be for fans of the character and Madden, but for those who love both, this content should definitely turn out to be a bit of fun! Madden NFL 21 fans who are not interested in this content can always check out the latest title update released in the game earlier today.
Madden NFL 21 is now available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Google Stadia and PC. You can view all of our previous coverage of the game here.
