PARIS – French President Emmanuel Macron posted a video on his Twitter account in the early hours on Thursday, in which Macron spurned the violent scenes in Washington DC while simultaneously expressing his strength in the democratic process in the United States.
Macron spoke both English and French in his Twitter video messages, which carried the hashtag “#WeAreOne”.
‘I just wanted to express our friendship and faith in the United States. What happened in Washington DC today is definitely not American. We believe in the power of our democracies. We believe in the power of American democracy, ”Macron said in English.
Hundreds of supporters of President Donald Trump had previously stormed the Capitol on Wednesday in an attempt to undo his election defeat.
