The first significant sign that this is a new era of Mets baseball has arrived.
The team is nearing a trade with the Indians to acquire star shortstop Francisco Lindor and starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco, The Post’s Joel Sherman confirmed.
Shortstops Andres Gimenez and Amed Rosario, along with outfield prospect Isaiah Greene and pitching prospect Josh Wolf will head to Cleveland.
Lindor, 27, is lining up to become a free agent after this season and it was long thought Cleveland would part with the superstar.
The quadruple All-Star would be a major upgrade to the left side of the Mets infield and would be the first major step in the Steve Cohen era.
Carrasco, 33, missed the end of the 2019 season in his battle with leukemia. He thrived in the shortened 2020 season, posting a 2.91 ERA and 82 strikeouts in 68 innings over 12 starts and was the comeback player of the year.
