Jason Garrett is back on the NFL coaching carousel.
The Chargers, who fired coach Anthony Lynn on Monday, have requested an interview with the Giants offensive coordinator for their vacancy, according to NFL Network.
Garrett, 54, spent 10 seasons as Cowboys head coach before not being brought back after last season. He went 85-67, but made only three playoff appearances before joining Joe Judge’s staff this season. Garrett has experience mentoring young quarterbacks such as Dak Prescott and Daniel Jones. The Chargers have one of the NFL’s best young signalers in Justin Herbert.
Garrett leaving to take a job as a head coach could be one of the most difficult off-season decisions for them. It is speculated that the team could leave Garrett after leading a foul that was second to last in the NFL in total yards and runs scored for the Jets only. He also didn’t help Jones make a leap forward in his second season.
The Jets have asked to interview Giants defense coordinator Patrick Graham.
