CNN – The online sensation that became “Ratatouille: The TikTok Musical” has raised more than $ 1 million for the Actors Fund organization and struggling artists affected by the pandemic.
The musical premiered on the social media platform New Year’s Day and featured such famous names as Wayne Brady, Titus Burgess and Adam Lambert. News of the monetary success was announced during production on Saturday Twitter page.
The TikTok community saw the project evolve from a strange endeavor that started with a user’s Broadway-esque ode to the 2007 Disney Pixar movie, into a full-blown event within a few weeks.
Tickets to see the production went for just $ 5 each, meaning more than 200,000 were raised.
“It’s so important to support artists at this point, I think, both in terms of raising the actual money (and) to bring hope that new work can still be made and that there is room for innovation,” he said. Ratatouille’s director Lucy Moss. CNN on Thursdays.
“Maybe, you know, this kind of work wouldn’t have happened if we weren’t all at home.”
Supporters can still follow the show. Tickets can be purchased up to and including January 4.
