Average consumption rises to 346,160 as a result of hurricanes Eta and Iota

tegucigalpa. Empresa Energía Honduras (EEH) closed the fourth year of operation of the Enee distribution system with a deterioration of several indicators.

As of November 2020, average readings totaled 346,160, according to the latest monthly report from Manitoba Hydro International (MHI), which is due to the impact of Hurricanes Eta and Iota.

Last year, the highest results were in line with March with 833,156 and 468,782 in April, which was explained by containment measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

According to the explanation of the executives of EEH, which has been operating the National Electric Power Company’s distribution system since August 2016, the circulation restrictions prevented the measurement personnel from taking the respective measurements. The goal of Empresa Energía Honduras was to close the previous year with an average consumption of 150,000, a commitment that the consortium of national and Colombian capital could not deliver.

The result. The increase in the average readings from November of the previous year has a number of explanations. According to the MHI report, the supervisor of the EEH contract, the covid-19 pandemic and hurricanes Eta and Iota caused the average consumption cases.

It adds that of the 346,160 cases in November 2020, 52.46% (186,163) are related to the effect of Eta and Iota, while 47.54% (164,547) correspond to averages of news related to reading.

In October there were 204,375 cases, an increase of 69.37%.

Sectors. The increase in average readings in November of the previous year has a series of explanations, one of which is the increase in consumption in the residential sector. In November 2020, they stood at 326,739, more than the 193,594 in the previous month, with an increase of 133,145, mainly in the northwest of the country, the region most affected by the natural phenomena of last year’s penultimate month. The commercial sector is second with the most cases, at 15,891, up from 8,975 in October 2020.

Those two consumer sectors represent 98.9% of the average reading cases.
