Raleigh, NC – A woman crashed over the barricade at the intersection of Pleasant Grove Church Road and Airport Boulevard, her car rolled down the steep embankment and came to rest in the water below.
The crash occurred on Friday morning, about a mile from RDU airport.
According to a Morrisville Fire Rescue official, the woman drove right through the intersection and down the embankment, which was still slippery and muddy from the rain.
When officials arrived, she tried to climb the embankment, but struggled to get up there because of the mud and her shoes.
Officials said she only sustained minor injuries and it is expected to be okay. However, she was charged with being a DWI, driving recklessly and driving with a suspended driver’s license.
At around 5 a.m., the car’s headlights could still be seen on the dark bank. Within half an hour the crews had pulled the car out of the creek.
