Jets coach Adam Gase said on Wednesday that he has not been told by Jets ownership that he will be fired against the Patriots after Sunday’s season finale.
There was a report from WFAN on Tuesday that said Jets property told Gase he would be fired.
“That was news to me,” Gase said. “Nobody said that to me.”
While Gase has not been notified of the decision, it is expected that Jets CEO and Chairman Christopher Johnson will fire Gase after the game against the Patriots. Gase is 9-22 in two years as the team’s coach.
Gase said he doesn’t focus on his employment status.
“I probably heard when I was 22 years old, Nick Saban told me you’re doing your job until someone tells you otherwise,” Gase said. ‘I’m going to focus on that. My job is to get us ready to go next Sunday and try to win a game. ”
The Jets have won two consecutive games after a 0-13 start. The Jets’ attack has been terrible under Gase, whose background is on the offensive side of the ball. Gase was asked if he is concerned about his reputation as an attacking coach who has had a hit with the Jets having the No. 32 offense in the NFL for the second consecutive season.
“I don’t know if worry is really the right word,” Gase said. ‘It’s just … I mean, it pisses me off. If there’s one side of the ball I want to make sure it’s good it’s that one. It didn’t happen and that’s up to me. “
