The Director of the National Police (PN), Major General Edward Sánchez González, reported that a joint committee consisting of members of that institution and the Ministry of Defense was established to investigate the incident between an agent of the General Directorate of Road Safety and transportation over land (Digesett) and a general.
The announcement was made during a press conference at the National Palace, where González pointed out that the commission had been set up to address the situation and issue the accompanying report in due course.
The PN stated that the Secretary of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Luciano Díaz Morfa, had appointed the Inspector General of the Armed Forces, Major General José Manuel Castillo Castillo, and that the police had also appointed his Inspector General.
Yesterday, the director of the Digesett, General Ramón Antonio Guzmán Peralta, also reported on the investigation and said he would wait for the results.
The incident
The incident took place in Pedro Henríquez Ureña Street with Máximo Gómez avenue and has been spread through social networks and traditional press media.
It is noticed when General José Manuel Frías Rodríguez accuses two Digesett agents of not paying him honor when they inspect his vehicle, parked on part of the National District’s bike path, an area where parking is prohibited.
In a video broadcast on social networks, Frías Rodríguez is shown demanding “respect” for the Digesett agents and for them to put themselves in a position of “attention” because of their rank. “Watch Amet, watch Amet, but what is this?”, The officer overhears in a defiant attitude to one of the officers.
Then the other officer comes to mediate the situation, and the general tells him, “He has to pay attention and say respectfully sir, identify yourself, hey. If I identify myself, he should greet me as a general and then say, “Commander, you can’t stand there.”
