Ceiling fans sold by Home Depot are being recalled due to the possibility of the blades coming off during use and causing injury, CBS reports.
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a recall for the Hampton Bay 54-inch Mara Indoor / Outdoor fans produced by Florida-based manufacturer King of Fans. Prior to the recall, 47 reports were made of the blades coming off on this model. In two incidents, the rogue knife hit someone, and in four separate incidents, the detached knife caused property damage.
The hardware store, which sold more than 190,000 ceiling fans, was the only seller of the now-recalled product. About 182,000 were sold in the US, and a further 8,800 were sold through Home Depot in Canada.
The fans were online and available in stores for around $ 150 from April to October.
The recall notice instructs those who purchased the faulty fans to avoid further use and contact the manufacturer for a free replacement.
“Consumers should stop using the ceiling fans immediately and inspect the ceiling fans by following the instructions at www.kingoffans.com/MaraRecall.htm or by visiting the QR code listed in the recall release,” the message reads . “If consumers see blade movement or uneven gaps between the blades and the fan body or clip movement during inspection, consumers should contact King of Fans immediately for a free replacement ceiling fan.”
