President of the Puerto Rico Amateur Baseball Federation, José Quiles, this Tuesday received with joy and optimism the appointment of former Olympic athlete Ray Quiñones Vázquez as the new Secretary of the Sports and Recreation (DRD) Department.
“I trust this appointment marks a new beginning in relations between the government of Puerto Rico and the country’s major sporting entities. May we leave behind four disastrous years of poor execution and poor cooperation, ”Quiles said in a written statement.
Ray Quiñones Vázquez is an athlete by birth, with the knowledge, track record and experience to lead the DRD. I cherish the hope that the new secretary will expand communication bridges with the federations to effectively promote the development of sport in the communities through joint initiatives, ”added Quiles.
“I am very excited that DRD is being led by an athlete with Ray’s knowledge and track record. Despite the difficulties and challenges we face as a country, the outlook for sport is bright. The Puerto Rico Baseball Federation is ready to partner with the designated Secretary of the DRD to carry out collaborative projects and promote sports as an instrument that promotes peace and social coexistence, ”said the president of the Puerto Rico Amateur Baseball Federation.
“The DRD’s designated secretary is a true athlete, one who knows the value of effort and genuine love for Puerto Rico, who knows what it means to defend the national colors with honor and pride. Knowing him, I can assure you that unlike the last two occupying the office chair, Ray’s uniform has never been this great in sports, ”Quiles concluded.
