Pierre Cardin, the well-known French designer, died in the American hospital this morning at the age of 98 Neuilly, west of Paris. The sad news was released to the United States by his family AFP (France Media Agency).
“It is a day of great sadness for our whole family, Pierre Cardin is gone. The great fashion designer he was throughout the century left France and the world a unique artistic legacy in the world, but not only. We are proud of his tenacity and the courage he has shown throughout his life. As a modern man of multiple talents and inexhaustible energy, he quickly became involved in the globalization of goods and trade, ‘they wrote in the statement.
The designer managed to create his empire based on needs: in the mid-twentieth century, he saw in the market the opportunity to dress women who decided to enter the labor market after the Second World War. At that time the shops cheap they didn’t exist and most couldn’t afford haute couture suits.
Throughout his career, he was classified as a Futurist, not only because of his model, but also because he understood the freedom that women aspired to. For many others, he opened a shop in a large warehouse and paraded men. He innovated with his large-scale licensing system that allowed him to spread around the world: he printed his name on a wide variety of products such as ties, cigarettes, perfumes and even mineral water.
“Pierre Cardin, of Italian origin, never forgot his origins, while showing unconditional love for France. Supreme devotion is at last the first couturier to enter the Academy of Fine Arts, recognizing fashion as an art in itself. Today, proof of this is his own academic sword, which he made himself and which has the symbols of his success inscribed, “his family’s statement concluded.
