In Cuba there are people who are committed to making your life impossible

Cuban guitarist, composer and singer Pedro Luis Ferrer reflected on Facebook about the meaning of dissent in Cuba, where he comes from and how the authorities treat him.

Ferrer, who opposes arbitrariness and abuse by the island’s authorities, was referring to what a person goes through when faced with the designs of power, even when they violate basic human rights. He also questioned the ineffectiveness of traditional channels for civilian complaints and, with it, the legal helplessness in which a Cuban finds himself:

“I know from my own experience that there are people in Cuba who are committed to making your life impossible. It’s like a sport. So when you yell and sue (in a circumstance where the national channels that receive complaints from citizens are ineffective), they pretend to use your charge to justify their mistreatment: – “Did you see it?” – They say satisfied-. ‘He has been proven to be a dissident,’ said the artist.

He added that protesting is prohibited necessarily. Not only does the repressive apparatus attack this right, but the individual limits himself to exercising it by learning that every Cuban, where dissent has been demonized, feared, condemned, has acquired:

Yes, because the act of protest is considered a service to the “enemy” (the revolutionaries must stoically persevere in silence). And are it ‘friends’ who give reasons for the protest? This is how the dissident factory works, an unstoppable vicious circle ”.

The author of The afternoon has turned sad He concluded his publication with a joke about “mercenarism in the service of the CIA” using the official discourse against dissidents in Cuba and with a few tenths that he called El Grito:

“The Scream

For Florinda the sharp one
They call her “condotiera”:
They say it charges at the border
opponent’s currency.

And it is that his cry is calante
with the wrath of Sanzón.
People of your descent
counted in Equixtán,
who screams because they give him
with a log on the nipple.

-How can I not scream
if you provoke my regret?
To Juanito the Protestant
They call him a mercenary:
They say he gets a salary
because of its constant noise.

And the cry is abundant
as the crux of the forest of honor.
The nymphs and the young men
have exhibited in Equixtán,
who screams because they give him
with a hammer in the eggs.

-How can I not scream
if you provoke my regret?
Silence the bewilderment?
If I don’t scream I’m dead “

Ferrer raised his voice last March to demand the release of Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara, who had been held for alleged crimes. On that occasion he said:

“If it condemned someone, I wouldn’t do it; but when it comes to the liberation of an artist, I am not afraid of being wrong and this is where I publicly leave my column ”.
