A heartwarming story about hope, family and a little bit of international espionage.
As evidenced by a compelling report by The times in the UK, some of James Doohan’s ashes, Star Trekis original Scotty, now live aboard the International Space Station. They’ve been around since 2008, and until now it’s been a secret.
The creator of this heartwarming plot was Richard Garriot, an entrepreneur who became one of the first private individuals to go into space in 2008. After being asked by the Doohan family to help fulfill the late James’ wishes – to find his way to space after death – Garriot and Doohan’s son Chris devised a plan, secretly creating a laminated card with some of Doohan’s ashes to sneak onto the International Space Station. .
It was completely clandestine … His family was very happy that the ashes got there, but we were all disappointed that we couldn’t talk about it in public for so long. Enough time has passed now that we can do it, ”Garriott said.
The plan was conceived after Garriott had already registered his items for the trip, so to make sure it was carried out, he kept it a secret from the people responsible for the mission. What do I consider a crime? That sounds like some kind of crime. But it may be the most heartwarming crime I can think of.

This would eventually be the the first time Doohan’s ashes landed in space, but it wasn’t the last. Some were also carried to space aboard a SpaceX rocket in 2012 a failed flight in 2008.
“Richard said, ‘We have to keep this silence for a while’ and here we are 12 years later. What he did was touch – it meant so much to me, so much to my family and it would have meant so much to my dad, ”Chris Doohan said.
James Doohan, who played Scotty in the original Star Trek, died in 2005 and has been in space since 2008. Its axis is reported to have traveled nearly 1.7 billion miles through space and orbited the planet more than 70,000 times. Shine me up indeed.
