Former Federal Prosecutor Discusses Next Steps in Bombing Investigation

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (WTVF) – The number of conspiracy theories surrounding the Christmas morning bombing in downtown Nashville continues to grow.

Former federal prosecutor Alex Little said this will only make it more difficult for investigators working to resolve the case.

“I think you should be concerned about copy cats, especially in this environment,” said Little. “Right now we live in an age of conspiracy theories in which people can believe anything.”

He said researchers should release as much information as they can safely and as quickly as possible.

“This extremely disturbing event has devastated two blocks of downtown Nashville and they need to be able to tell the public as much as possible to stop any speculation,” said Little.

At Saturday afternoon’s press conference, researchers said they are tracking down hundreds of tips.

They didn’t want to discuss reports about a person of interest – even though state and federal authorities were ransacking a house in Antioch at the time the press conference took place.

Little believes that if someone got out of the RV after driving down Second Avenue on Christmas morning – that cameras probably would have spotted him.

But so far no photos have been released of a person exiting the RV before it exploded.

There are really only two reasons for that. First, they didn’t get out of the van and died in the blast, most likely, or two, the police already have a good idea who it is and they don’t want that. indicate they are under investigation, ”Little said.

Little, who is now a partner at the law firm Burr & Forman, said the attack clearly shows a lot of planning, but he pointed to other major attacks carried out by zealots more determined than sophisticated.

“The Oklahoma City bombing was a massive attack that killed nearly 200 people and was carried out by two people who were not very well educated, and it took a long time and they were very determined,” said Little.

Little is said that if the bomber stayed in the RV during a suicide attack, the investigators are likely to find some sort of manifesto or reason for the attack.

The most important question remains: why would anyone do this?
