Earlier last week, the US Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) had approved Moderna’s coronavirus vaccine for emergency use, potentially adding the second vaccine to America’s massive vaccination against a raging pandemic.
Previously, the FDA had approved emergency use approval of a Covid-19 vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech.
Moderna’s vaccine is based on the same technology as Pfizer’s: mRNA. The actual virus is not embedded in these vaccines and people who get the photos cannot catch the virus from them. Instead, the vaccine contains a piece of genetic code that trains the body’s immune system to recognize the spike protein on the surface of the Covid-19 virus and build an organic defense when the attack comes.
