Worldwide cases of covid-19 officially reported to the World Health Organization (WHO) have reached 78.2 million today, meaning more than 1% of the world’s population has been infected with the new coronavirus in question a year.
The new cases reported to the organization on Christmas Day were 655,000, according to their count.
The total number of deaths from covid has risen to 1.74 million, with approximately 11,600 recorded by all countries in the past 24 hours.
America currently reports 33.9 million cases, Europe 24.9 million; and South Asia, 11.8 million; in an evolution in which most of the pollution is concentrated in the first two continents.
In terms of daily trends, Brazil has made a leap by registering nearly 47,000 cases in one day, again surpassing the UK, which ranks third for infections in 24 hours, which was nearly 40,000 there.
The United States continues to record highs, reporting 221,000 daily cases of positive tests for coronavirus.
