Extradition from Guatemala requested by US captured

Guatemalan police this Friday arrested a person whose extradition is demanded by the United States for a murder, informed the institution’s spokesman, Edwin Monroy.

The prisoner, identified as Saúl David Moro Ramírez, 37, was captured by agents from the Transnational Anti-Gang Center (CAT) in the town of Morales, in the north-east of the country.

Moro Ramírez “is being wanted by US authorities for a crime he allegedly committed in California in 2009,” he added.

According to Monroy, the warrant was issued on February 25.

The detainee will be transferred to Guatemala City, where a court will decide whether to proceed with the extradition, he added.

“In 2009 he was charged by US authorities with participating in the death of a man in the state of California,” he explained while living there.

He stated that the arrest was coordinated between the US and Guatemala authorities.
