The Mexican boxer is waiting for a new date to return to the fight
The Mexican Olympian and three-time world champion Ábner Mares revealed he is recovering from Covid-19, after visiting a hospital near his hometown on California territory, as reported by the fighter himself through his social networks, courtesy of the boxing family’s statements of support.
Mares, who is currently on the Showtime Boxing broadcasts in anticipation of a new date to return, is 35 years old and has a professional record of 31-3-1 with 15 knockouts. His most recent fight was in June 2018, when he lost via points to fellow countryman Leo Santa Cruz.
“Thank you to all my fans, friends and family for sending me positive messages that really mean a lot. I am overwhelmed with so much love they sent me. Covid really hit me, but we’re still in the fray. I felt bad over the weekend, but yesterday (Tuesday) was the worst day with chest pain and lack of oxygen, so I made the mail from the hospital, but today I am at home quarantined in my room. My wife and my daughters gave God a negative thank you, ”he said.
Jackie Calvo is recovering from brain edema
The Mexican boxer Jackie Calvo, 24, with a record of 13-5-2 and 1 knockout, is under medical care for cerebral edema after his fight against Edna Maltos last Friday, December 18., at a King Carlos Promotions evening held in Monterrey.
“They tell me I have brain swelling,” said Jackie. “I lost the feeling on the left side of my face, the doctor told me they hit me so many headbutts on a facial nerve. Because of this I didn’t go to round four, the doctor there gave me a pill, checked my eye and gave me a bottle of cold water. It wasn’t until we got back home that they checked me up and told me about edema, ”he added.
Jackie noted that he noticed a lot of weight difference with his rival in the fight and felt at least six headers. The fight was scheduled for eight rounds, but after three episodes he said he couldn’t continue and the fight ended in No Contest.
Hearn and Reynoso sign Hiroto Kyoguchi
