Writer and director Mike Flanagan has given fellow horror maker Ryan Murphy a run for his money with Netflix’s Spooky series, which began with Haunting of Hill House and continued this year with Haunting Bly Manor. While the fledgling anthology series has so many ghost tours to explore, Flanagan said he “has no plans for more chapters.” But that doesn’t mean it’s gone forever.

Flanagan shared on Twitter that there are “no plans at this time” to continue creating Spooky shows, saying his team is focusing on other TV shows for Netflix. However, he noted that we should say “never, never” to a continuation of the Spooky anthology series – giving fans a bit of hope that we can see more haunted houses in the future of Netflix.

This is a bit of a surprise, given how successful the series has become in such a short time. After the enormous success of Haunting of Hill HouseFlanagan and his partner Trevor Macy signed a multi-year deal with Netflix for a series of television shows, including Spooky in an ongoing series. The show will continue this year The haunt of Bly Manor, but it looks like things are stalling in favor of other projects for now.

At the moment Flanagan is working on a new Netflix limited series called Midnight Mass, which sees the return of Spooky stars Kate Siegel, Henry Thomas and Rahul Kohli. The seven-episode series takes place on an island, where the normally isolated community finds itself in the midst of something supernatural after the arrival of a mysterious but charismatic priest. Moreover, Flanagan adapting Christopher Pike’s horror novel for young adults The Midnight Club for Netflix. The plot is similar to Are you afraid of the dark?, about a bunch of kids who meet to tell scary stories, but it will be include elements from other Pike novels.

Haunting of Hill House and The haunt of Bly Manor are both available to watch on Netflix.
