A DUI suspect driving away from a traffic stop collided with another car at a nearby intersection and killed his driver in Gardena on Tuesday evening.
The crash was reported at approximately 10:30 PM near the intersection of Artesia Boulevard and Western Avenue. It happened shortly after police stopped a reckless driver.
The driver exited the traffic stop at high speed as officers approached and then crashed into a sedan, police said. The sedan driver, identified as a man in his sixties, died on the spot.
Details of the victim’s identity were not readily available.
A 19-year-old man – the driver of the other car – was arrested on charges of DUI, grand theft car, evasion and vehicle homicide. He was hospitalized, but details about his condition were not immediately available.
