Does the D stand for Initial Dan?
Many Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition players were hoping to receive Dan Hibiki and the Season 5 update in time for Christmas, but we now know that this won’t happen until after Valentine’s Day next year.
However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t any possible clues to unboxing this holiday season.
Capcom’s Senior Community and eSports Manager Matt “TheStreetWriter” Edwards recently made a trip to the company’s offices for work reasons before reporting that he might stick around “to test out some movements and mechanics.”
This of course led to a lot of comments and questions about SF5’s upcoming new combat mechanics and what he meant by “moves”, but there was one that stood out in particular.
A fan asked Edwards for vague hints of what the community might be chewing on this holiday season, to which the old Capcom replied using a GIF of a car race.

The clip itself appears to be from the Initial D anime as one of the characters seems to stray, and that’s probably as sketchy as they come.
Based on the clip itself, there is clearly little to criticize, but it does stimulate the imagination to link that in one way or another to a fighting game.
Guilty Gear Strive’s new Roman Cancel, which allows characters to move during the stop, was initially called Drift Roman Cancel by some fans, but that would be weird for a game like SF5.
The car also looks like it is accelerating, so there may be some speed or movement in the maps, although it’s doubtful Capcom would take the Street Fighter 5 Turbo route.
Maybe the classic car bonus stage will return if we take that tweet quite literally.
As Edwards is also a bit known for having fun / joking around with the community, there’s also a strong possibility that this could just be a troll post to keep fans talking and guessing until more concrete revelations come – or maybe you use the GIF as a funny way to escape the conversation.
Everything will most likely be revealed during the Capcom Cup weekend, which is scheduled for February 19-21, 2021, when they finally let go of Dan and all that Season 5 has to offer.
