Sonia Guzmán presents style letters in the United States as a DR ambassador

Sonia Guzmán presented her credentials to the State Department in Washington, the capital of the United States, to serve as the Dominican Republic’s new ambassador to that country.

Guzmán has become the first woman to hold this position and expressed his pride via a message on Twitter this Wednesday morning.

“Yesterday I presented the style letters to the State Department in Washington,” the Dominican representative tweeted to the United States.

The ambassador added that she is proud to represent Dominican men and women, as well as President Luis Abinader’s government.

Sonia Guzmán was announced by President Abinader as Ambassador to the United States on July 27, when the head of state had not yet taken over power.

Sonia Guzmán was not only the first woman to head that delegation, but was also already the first female holder of the Monetary Board in the country.

During Hipólito Mejía’s reign, Guzmán was Secretary of State for Industry and Trade and led the team negotiating the DR-CAFTA free trade agreement.

The new Dominican ambassador to the United States is the daughter of former President Antonio Guzmán Fernández, who ruled the country from 1978 to 1982.
