BASEBALL – Sierra hits homerun and doubles in Giants 6-2 win over Toros

Moisés Sierra homered and double, drove in four rounds to lead the Gigantes del Cibao to an easy 6-2 victory over the Toros del Este, preserving their chances of qualifying for the next round of the Dominican professional baseball tournament.

Sierra became the offensive hero after hitting about three laps in the fifth inning and a double that went one more lap in the seventh that were decisive in the all-important triumph of the Cibaeño team.

With their performance, the Giants set their record at 14-13 and are close to qualifying in the tournament, while the Bulls, who are already qualified, set their record at 16-13, the first to tie with the Eagles.

Marcos Molina, who worked three full innings, gave up one run and struckout five to claim the win, while Paolo Espino was the loser, who gave up five runs and seven hits with six strikeouts.

Notable is the work of the starting pitcher, Scott Haskin, who came out with a sore arm, but gave up no runs in three innings, with two strikeouts.

The Giants scored two runs at the end of the second inning, after one out of Kelvin Gutiérrez walked, Oneil Cruz hit rightfield and Wilin Rosario singled to the left.

At the end of the fifth inning, the Giants scored three rounds with a homerun down the left with two of Sierra’s excellent teammates.
