In The White Tiger, Adarsh Gourav plays his first starring role as Balram Halwai, who tells his often darkly comic story of his rise from a poor villager to a powerful entrepreneur in today’s India.

He links his success to working as a servant to a master who can give him prestige and power, Ashok (Rajkummar Rao) and Pinky (Chopra), both of whom have just returned to India from the United States.

“I want to be a driver for your son,” Balram tells Ashok’s father after he travels to his estate.

The trailer illustrates the class rift that separates them, as Ashok’s father stretches out his hand to stop his son from trying to shake Balram’s hand.
