BASEBALL – Licey out, Stars and Giants secure mini playoff

The Stars advanced to the playoffs by beating the Tigres del Licey by 4 runs with 1, who were eliminated in the Don José Manuel Fernández In memoriam, BHD León cup, winter fall baseball tournament. The match took place here at the Estadio Tetelo Vargas.

The victory of the Pachyderms was decided by outfielder Socrates Brito, who hit a basesloaded triple in the third off of starter Albert Abreu, who gave up Jeremy Peña’s single and walked Eric Filia and Ronnier Mustelier. Brito’s goal broke a 1-1 draw.

Reliever Chester Pimentel (1-2) scored the victory after a one-and-one-third inning on a hit, a pair of walks and two strikeouts, while the backhand fell to Albert Abreu (0-3), who he pitched three innings of four hits, four rounds, a pair of walks and four strikeouts.

Matt Pobereyko earned his third save by throwing one and a third innings on a transfer.

Domingo Acevedo pitched the first three and two thirds of the innings in which he gave up five basehits and one run with a walk and some strikeouts.

For the Tigers, who had nine hits, Anderson Tejeda was 4-3; Jorge Bonifacio, 4-1; Dawel Lugo, 4-1; Sandy Leon, 3-1 with a ticket; Emilio Bonifacio, 2-1.

For the Stars, who has six undisputed matches, Socrates Brito, 3-1 with three RBI’s and a walk; Lewin Diaz, four-at-bats homerun with one run and one RBI; Rodolfo Durán, 3-1; Domingo Leyba, 4-1, and Jeremy Peña, 4-1.

The Stars will play two games against the Giants next Tuesday at the Julián Javier Stadium in San Francisco de Macorís. The first is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
