Madeleine McCann prime suspect Christian Brueckner, 43, will be questioned by police, German prosecutors say
- In June, German police named pedophile Christian Brueckner as the prime suspect
- Brueckner lived near the resort of Praia da Luz, where Maddie disappeared in 2007
- Reports say he might never be questioned due to insufficient evidence
- But head of investigation Christian Wolters has insisted ‘he will be questioned’
The prime suspect in the Madeleine McCann case will be questioned by police, German prosecutors say.
Convicted pedophile Christian Brueckner, 43, was identified as a suspect by German police 13 years after Madeleine went missing while on vacation with her family in Portugal in 2007.
Christian Wolters, head of the investigation at Brueckner, 43, told The Sun that exactly when he will be questioned depends on further investigation, “but he will be questioned.”
The confirmation comes after reports that Brueckner may never be questioned, as the prosecutor who led the investigation said the police do not have enough evidence to obtain an arrest warrant.

Hans Christian Wolters had told the podcast They’ve Taken Her: ‘At the moment our evidence is not that strong, we are sure that he will be sentenced in court.
“Maybe we need one witness who can tell us the things we don’t know.”
Earlier this year, Mr. Wolters revealed that they didn’t have to find Madeleine’s body to prosecute Brueckner for her murder.
When asked if he had forensic evidence to put Brueckner in the flat where Madeline slept, Mr. Wolters replied, “I have an answer, but we have decided not to disclose this information.
‘I can’t say’ yes’ or ‘no’ because that would raise a thousand other questions and I can’t go into details.

‘But you have to believe me when I say we have more evidence.
“Here in Germany, our prosecution only reveals things if they are solid.”
Brueckner is in prison in Germany after being convicted of drug offenses.
He has previously been convicted of child abuse and rape.
Brueckner, who lived in the seaside town of Praia da Luz at the same time as Madelein’s disappearance, has previously said he is innocent of any crime related to the four-year-old.
